Searching for images
You can search for images from:
- Image Search page
- Advaned Image Search page
- Web Search box
Image searches are less reliable than text searches. And multiword queries tend not to work well in Google's Image Search. But single-word queries can give you thousands of results.
Advaned search operators in Image Search page, or search options in Advaned Image Search page allow to make searches much better targeted.
Please type in the box - your comment, suggestion, or other contribution. For instance:
– How might this text be improved?
– Can you suggest a typical example of using this feature?
– What more information/topic would you like to see here?
Feel free to type :-) - the size of the text is not limited.
Having finished, click Send.

This search is similar to simple Web search.
However, Google uses its own methods of associating keywords with images.
Google keeps track of JPG, GIF, and PNG image formats.
Note that the operators filetype:jpg and filetype:jpeg return different results.
The site: operator limits your searches to particular sites or domains.
It works in a similar way in all Google search features that support it.
This search seems to be limited in use, though there may be cases when it would work most effectively.
Note that URL's do not have spaces, so in search results there will be some character between 'egyptian' and 'pyramids'. Usually it's a dash '-'.
Sometimes inurl: returns results without your keywords in URL's. One of the reasons is because it considers certain elements like JPG extensions as part of the URL. As a result, it may return pages with your keywords in image file names.
You'll hardly ever need to combine search operators in Image Search.
Operators in Image search are in general not very reliable. For instance, you can compare 'earth site:nasa.gov filetype:gif' with 'earth site:nasa.gov filetype:jpg' to have a rough idea on how NASA uses image formats.
But try 'earth intitle:skylab site:nasa.gov' (no results) and cf. it with the page http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap060429.html which has 'skylab' in its title.
Advaned Image Search page has basically the same functions as the search operators.
In contrast, it doesn't allow 'inurl:' search, but it has Coloration and Size features.
The details of Advaned Image Search page are described here.
You can add the word 'pictures' in Web search boxes for a quick image search.
It works well with words like 'sunset' but not always with words less commonly associated with images.
Instead of 'pictures', you can use 'pics'.
